Are you feeling burnt out? Are you asked to be creative or innovative? We interviewed our graphic design team and made a list of their top ten ways to boost creativity.
- Laugh & Relax: Did you know that when you laugh endorphins release triggering stimulation to the brain? Did you also know that when you relax, your mind clears so thoughts can flow? So, incorporate these necessities into your everyday life. It will help to release stress while opening your mind to new ideas. Creative ideas come more naturally when you are relaxed, happy and in a good mood. Makes sense, right?
- Do Different Things: Naturally, we can become immersed into a reoccurring routine because it’s comfortable. Try something new. Expand your activities and consider doing something out of the ordinary. It’s a great way to see how things you’ve learned apply to other disciplines. It may even help you gain new perspective.
- Listen & Play Music: Do you know music stimulates both the right and left hemispheres of the brain? Playing an instrument exercises the creative right side of the brain and the analytical left side. Listening to music or paying attention to notes, rhythm and beats can do the same. Regardless of your experience, try it out! It has been said that Albert Einstein owes his creativity to listening to Mozart pieces – need we say more?
- Increase Oxygen Flow: When oxygen flows to the brain, cognitive function increases. It might be easier to focus and sustain attention after going for a walk or jog. So, take a quick walk or some type of aerobic workout – you can only benefit!
- Do Puzzles & Brain Teasers: Puzzles, brain teasers and even riddles stimulate your brain’s concentration, focus and visualization – all help to jump-start the creative process. Practicing visualization can help your mind achieve what you desire.
- Journal Ideas: When you have a thought, write it down. Keep a journal or notebook with you so you can jot notes at all times. Add picture clippings, quotes and articles. I don’t know about you but most of us can’t remember one moment from the next! If you keep track, it helps you remember your thoughts, developing a more creative space. Use this collaborative method to construct a vision. What is momentous to you?
- Read & Look at the Pictures: It is known that reading stimulates the mind and opens it up to new ways of thinking. Novels, articles and magazines not only offer good reading material but good pictures too. Spend time thumbing through picture books; enjoy looking at the photos, illustrations or art that interests you.
- Eat Anti-Oxidants: We often forget that the food we consume generates energy. Do you notice your energy level drop when you aren’t eating properly? Give your brain a boost with foods rich in anti-oxidants. According to Food Network, the top ten anti-oxidant foods are tomatoes, berries, peaches, kale, plums, bell peppers, cantaloupes, corn, spinach and cherries.
- Ask For Feedback: For the most part, we humans depend on our community. When we share, we gain in many ways. Try sharing your ideas and ask for help, guidance and opinions from others. Their feedback can add a whole new set of ideas or give you confidence in the ones you have.
