“This is a great dress! Look at this dress!” exclaims Nanette Newbry, Principal, Studio 2055. You never know where inspiration will come from, and when you’re in the business of creative design, it’s important that you find it.
Every client is unique and is treated so. In the fall, the Studio initiated a unique project for the Gemological Institute of America, Inc., (GIA) headquartered in Carlsbad, CA. GIA entrusted the Studio to design and produce their 80th Anniversary calendar, an annual promotional piece sent to jewelry industry professionals around the globe.
Being the world’s most recognized and respected gemological authority, inspiration was a key element in the calendar’s design. When Ms. Newbry came across this dress by Versace in the New York Times Magazine, she was drawn to its energy, lines, patterns and color, that created her inspiration for the calendar design. It was a great match…the global fashion authority– Versace–and the global gemology authority–GIA. And, the cover’s diagonal design resemble facets in cut diamonds and colored stones.
From the runway to print, the recently completed Anniversary Calendar showcases historic jewelry, gems and specimens. The De Beers Millennium Star, a 203 ct. flawless diamond is December’s fabulous image, and a stunning slice from the Liddicoatite tourmaline graces the month of August. (Learn more about the father of modern gemology Dr. Liddicoat). Special printing processes and techniques utilized metallic inks and spot gloss to enhance the pieces featured each month.
“GIA is an amazing organization to work with and are true authorities on quality. The privilege is ours to create their materials.” says Newbry.
Where will the next inspiration come from?
