After a close friend received a diagnoses of ovarian cancer, Nanette Newbry owner of Studio 2055 and Newbry Studios, discovered an organization, Nine Girls Ask? The founder, Joan Wyllie, formed the organization with the help of her family after she survived stage 3 of ovarian cancer. Nine Girls Ask? is a nonprofit that is dedicated to finding a cure for ovarian cancer while comforting women who are currently battling the disease.
On September 10, 2011, Nanette attended a fundraising event hosted by Nine Girls Ask? called “Making Miracles Happen.” The fundraiser was at the La Jolla’s Marriot and featured a variety of activities such as wine tasting, guest speakers, boutiques and educational booths. Newbry Studios generously donated an encaustic painting to the fundraiser’s live auction.
