Studio 2055, a highly respected marketing, branding and graphic design firm, recently marked a major milestone – a full quarter century in business. The Carlsbad-based company, owned by artist and designer Nanette Newbry, was founded in 1984 when Newbry was still working on her Bachelor’s degree at the University of California in La Jolla. One of her first clients was Taylor Made Golf, which was quite a coup for such a new and, at the time, unproven design studio.
“Our relationship with Taylor Made lasted 12 years,” commented Nanette, “their company grew from a start-up 20-million dollar company up to a 318-million dollar company, so one can image the scope of projects we took on.” That success generated work with many other high-profile companies including: 20th Century Fox, The Four Seasons Hotel, Stolichnaya Gold Vodka and Reebok, among many others.
Newbry’s husband, Richard Dowdy, joined the studio in 2002 as art director and operations manager. An accomplished writer (The Tarnished Rainbow and Snap Judgments) and photographer (he is a staff photographer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway), Richard brought his considerable talents to bear as the company moved forward into the new millennium.
Thus a thriving, yet conventional, graphic design firm was reborn into a comprehensive rebranding service that would not only fulfill the graphic design needs of their client base, but strategize with these companies to optimize their potential, to not merely survive, but to flourish in a constantly shifting and competitive marketplace during challenging economic times. Studio 2055 is now unique among its competitors, as it offers brand-strategy development across all media platforms, integrated seamlessly with award-winning design and copywriting work. It’s a synergistic blend of disciplines designed to help their clients succeed – and it is working.
“Our intent is always to partner with our clients to determine their company’s values, core messages and point-of-difference. We uncover valuable information that helps us plan strategies to attract and inform the client’s target audience,” said Newbry.
In addition to growing Studio 2055 into a $600,000 a year enterprise, Newbry believes in corporate social responsibiity, raising over one million dollars for a variety of nonprofit agencies in the San Diego area. Her dedication to local causes has made her part of the very fabric of the community
Studio 2055 was established with the mission of implementing brand strategy campaigns and design for progressive clients. Their clients have included international companies such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), Cutty Sark and Hot Spring Portable Spas. Regional clients include Knobbe Martens, Reno Contracting and Cardium Therapeutics. Studio 2055’s strength is built upon excellence in providing award-winning design that places their clients firmly at the forefront of their audiences.
