We love beach cleanups, but what about the millions of pounds of trash that sink to the ocean floor and never make it to shore? Putting a fresh spin on your traditional beach cleanup, the San Diego Oceans Foundation brought together volunteers for an underwater cleanup of San Diego Bay called “Trash Bash.” Studio 2055‘s surface support volunteers had fun helping divers pull trash out of the bay near the Maritime Museum along the Embarcadero. We were led by foundation intern Kelsey Hall, who stood by as we sorted, weighed and recorded our trash findings for the organization to use later for research. The best junk we pulled out was a bike, skateboard and some tires but the most common were cans and bottles. The event was well-organized and allowed everyone to enjoy the day.
