For the past two years, Comet Creative has participated in the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Military Mentoring program. This program helps educates individuals trying to pursue a career after exiting the military. Last week, the Studio met with Raymond Carillo, a talented young Marine. He was interested in how he could put his talents to work in various career paths. Originally from Los Angeles, Raymond entered the military after attending community college. His career interests include 3D animation and illustration. During the meeting, Creative Director Nanette Newbry, along with Comet Creative’s resident designer/illustrator Jez Callejas, reviewed Raymond’s portfolio and listened to his story. Raymond began drawing and painting in elementary school. His work is chock full of complex metaphors that are linked to his personal psychology and experiences. He has developed an alter ego who performs amazing feats while living in a mundane, everyday world.
Nanette and Jez shared their years of experience in the creative field that will help Raymond make informed decisions on his career path. In all likelihood, he’ll return to school with the intent of pursuing his passion for drawing. Raymond is interested in pursuing a career in the arts once he leaves the Marine Corps. His goal is to return to college to complete his degree, and then find employment in 3D animation or in graphic design.
