Living in Southern California we’re exposed to a lot of sunshine all year long. Friends and family members who are aware of the danger of too much sun, make trips to the doc to get patches of skin tested for cancer. Oftentimes the results come back positive and they go under the knife to remove the potential cancer.
When Mike Brown, who has a Carlsbad-based golf tournament planning firm, began working with the Skin Cancer Foundation to host tournaments around the country, we joined with him to create more awareness for skin cancer. We’ve worked with many start-ups over the years and know the importance of getting started on the right foot. Mike’s tournament, named the Skin Golf Tour, needed an identity to get going. This is where we stepped in.
The logo design was a result of Studio 2055’s Design Grant Program, geared toward helping organizations put a face to their concept. Often organizations get stalled in their efforts to get their projects underway. To aid in their efforts, the Studio offers design grants.
In 2014, the Skin Golf Tours will host tournaments in Phoenix, Palm Springs, Denver and San Diego. Proceeds from each event go directly to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Each tournament will have a host dermatologist who will provide a free skin screening to participants. The first tournament will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona in February 2014.
The Skin Cancer Foundation is the only international organization devoted solely to education, prevention, early detection and prompt treatment of the world’s most common cancer.
“Golfers in particular have to take extra precautions from sun exposure because rounds last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours,” says Mike. “I’m so happy with the new logo and for the help of Studio 2055. We look forward to the launch of the new tournaments and the awareness and funds to support the Skin Cancer Foundation.”
