“Eeewww!” is the most classic reaction when you try to feed a baby green beans. If they really want to protest, they’ll clamp their mouth shut or throw the food on the floor. Though they may try your patience, you know the new food will help them grow and they’ll get over it.
A few years ago, our Comet Creative design staff had the same reaction to social media when we were told we had to get on board. We looked at the big, complex, social network and started protesting. Custom Facebook pages and blog content could have been green beans and Brussels sprouts!
While consulting with an expert, our eyes glazed over, we shook our heads and all sighed with dismay. The thought that we were going to have to take on social media to help us grow was too much!
Slowly, we grew a taste for it as we became more familiar with the different channels and actually tried them. We maintained an open line with our expert to keep us from getting overwhelmed. It took a while but now we’re experienced and excited about our new menu of social media marketing.
As a result, we’ve grown. First, the studio’s brand awareness, search results and overall communication has improved due to increased content on our blog. Second, we discovered new design opportunities for custom thumbnails, avatars, banners, backgrounds and icons for our Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter sites. Overall, we’ve successfully gone from “eeww” to “whew!”
